Nikon D850 Focus Shift

June 4, 2018 by Stan Lee

I tried out the new feature  “Focus Shift”  in the Nikon D850 this afternoon. First I tested it with a static figurine. Then I went out to the garden and took a macro photo of tiny flowers. Even with a mild wind blowing the flowers, the image still came out quite good.  I am quite happy with the results. These are the test images:

Lens: Sigma 150mm f2.8 APO Macro DG  HSM
Figurine exposure: 1/10 sec  f3.5   ISO 160  natural indoor light
Flower exposure: 1/250 sec f3.5  ISO 80  outdoor overcast light

Normal micro with no focus shift

Focus shift with 30 frames

Focus shift with 60 frames

Focus shift with 50 frames to get desired subjects in focus and yet still be able to blur the background.
